Wardrobe Essentials: J. Crew Lady Day Coat Review | Petite 0 | Petite-friendly fit | Best winter jacket coat | Double-cloth thinsulate

Today I’m excited to talk more about Wardrobe Essentials. You already know I love quality over quantity and investing in classic pieces that will last years to come. Since many of you live in winter weather, I’ll be talking about a Wardrobe Essential: J. Crew Lady Day Coat Review.

I first purchased the Double-Cloth J. Crew Lady Day Coat with Thinsulate 2 years ago and love it for several reasons. Let’s go through why it is so versatile and petite-friendly fit.

J. Crew Lady Day Coat Review: Why do I LOVE it?

  • Feminine design: This coat is figure-flattering and features a tailored cut for a fitted and feminine look.
  • Classic: This coat was first introduced in 2001 and continues to be a signature item in J. Crew‘s collection. See more information about why it is so versatile below!
  • On-seam pockets: This may seem minor but it is a big deal to me! It’s really important (to me at least) to be able to place my hands into my pockets to keep them warm and toasty while wearing this coat in winter weather. Sometimes coats forget to include this important feature and have button-closed or vertical pockets that are not usable! Pockets need to be usable features on a coat!
  • Functional buttons at cuffs: These buttons are not just for show and style! Functional ones are always a nice surprise and bonus for customization and fit.
  • Lined: You expect wool coats to be lined but you would be surprised to find some are not. This is a must in any wool coat I believe.

J. Crew Lady Day Coat Review: Why is it so Versatile?

  • Several color options: Each season J. Crew has this coat available and adds more seasonal colors to it’s lineup! It’s always nice to add in pops of color during chilly winter weather while still having the classic neutral colors available season after season.
  • Thinsulate material: Because the J. Crew Lady Day Coat is made with thinsulate Italian wool it is not bulky or oversized. It can easily be carried in your arm to add as an extra layer when temperatures drop throughout the night – this wool is made at Italy’s Manifattura di Carmignano mill (known the world over for its exceptional woolen fabrics) – more information about their design HERE.

J. Crew Lady Day Coat Review: Petite-Friendly Fit?

  • YES, it is petite-friendly!
  • No alterations or tailoring required here!
  • If you’re new here, check out my About Page for my petite-measurements
  • I am always looking for clothing items that are both an investment, quality-design and material, and require no or limited alterations or tailoring!
  • The Double-Cloth J. Crew Lady Day Coat with Thinsulate meets all these expectations
  • I opted for Size Petite 0 in the 2015 line. I tried a Petite 00 and Regular 00 before making the decision to keep the Size Petite 0. I didn’t try the 000 or Petite 000 since the 00’s were already getting tight on me.

Why?

  • My primary goal was to use this wool coat as a Winter Coat. Therefore, it needed enough room for me to layer sweaters and bulky clothing underneath.
  • Think about what your goal is with a clothing item before determining your size. If it’s going to be used as a layering piece over dresses and special occasion attire, then your usual size may be appropriate. In my case, this would have been a Petite 00.
  • Sizing: See my photos to see how well it fits in my arm length, shoulder width and chest width – all things I consider when purchasing a top or jacket/coat.
